Every pillar of Islam carries deep wisdom, but fasting holds a special distinction because it is an act that connects the servant directly with Allah in a deeply personal, hidden, and sincere way.<\/p>\n<p>On Ramadan Day 4, reflecting on <em>why fasting is so special<\/em> helps us move beyond the physical dimension of hunger and understand the spiritual secrets, Qur\u2019anic foundations, and Prophetic teachings behind this \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0638\u064a\u0645 (great) act of worship.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"1_Fasting_is_Commanded_Directly_by_Allah_in_the_Quran\"><\/span>1. Fasting is Commanded Directly by Allah in the Qur\u2019an<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Allah says in the Qur\u2019an:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cO you who believe! Fasting has been prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, so that you may attain Taqwa.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This verse establishes three powerful truths:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Fasting is <strong>obligatory<\/strong> (Farz).<\/li>\n<li>It was prescribed to <strong>previous nations<\/strong> as well.<\/li>\n<li>Its main goal is to develop <strong>Taqwa (God-consciousness).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Unlike many acts of worship that focus on outward action, fasting focuses on building inner awareness \u2014 the constant realization that Allah is watching.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"2_Fasting_is_for_Allah_Alone\"><\/span>2. Fasting is for Allah Alone<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>One of the most famous Hadith Qudsi explains the unique status of fasting.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said that Allah says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cEvery deed of the son of Adam is for him except fasting; it is for Me, and I alone will reward it.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_is_fasting_singled_out\"><\/span>Why is fasting singled out?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Scholars explain:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Salah is visible.<\/li>\n<li>Zakah is recorded.<\/li>\n<li>Hajj is witnessed.<\/li>\n<li>But fasting is <strong>hidden<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A person can pretend to fast publicly yet secretly eat \u2014 but if he truly fasts, it is only because he fears Allah.<\/p>\n<p>Thus fasting becomes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The purest form of sincerity (Ikhlas).<\/li>\n<li>A private covenant between servant and Creator.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"3_Fasting_Develops_Taqwa_God-Consciousness\"><\/span>3. Fasting Develops Taqwa (God-Consciousness)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Returning to Qur\u2019an 2:183 \u2014 <em>\u201cso that you may attain Taqwa.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Taqwa means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Being aware of Allah at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Avoiding sins out of fear and love of Him.<\/li>\n<li>Controlling desires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When fasting:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You avoid halal food \u2192 so you learn to avoid haram.<\/li>\n<li>You control hunger \u2192 so you control anger.<\/li>\n<li>You restrain desires \u2192 so you build discipline.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cFasting is a shield.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>A shield from:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sins<\/li>\n<li>Shaytan<\/li>\n<li>Hellfire<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"4_Fasting_Breaks_the_Power_of_Desires\"><\/span>4. Fasting Breaks the Power of Desires<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Human sins often come from two drives:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Stomach (food, drink)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Desire (lust, urges)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Fasting weakens both.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa advised young people:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWhoever among you can marry should marry\u2026 and whoever cannot should fast, for it will be a shield for him.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Thus fasting is spiritual training \u2014 it disciplines the nafs (ego\/self).<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"5_The_Reward_of_Fasting_is_Unlimited\"><\/span>5. The Reward of Fasting is Unlimited<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Most deeds have fixed rewards:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10\u00d7<\/li>\n<li>70\u00d7<\/li>\n<li>700\u00d7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But fasting has <strong>no limit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Because Allah said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201c\u2026I alone will reward it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Scholars say this means:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reward beyond calculation.<\/li>\n<li>Reward beyond imagination.<\/li>\n<li>Reward given directly by Allah.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This alone makes fasting one of the most profitable acts of worship.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"6_The_Smell_of_the_Fasting_Person_is_Beloved_to_Allah\"><\/span>6. The Smell of the Fasting Person is Beloved to Allah<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cThe smell from the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the fragrance of musk.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This teaches:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Physical discomfort for Allah\u2019s sake is honored.<\/li>\n<li>Even what people dislike becomes beloved to Allah.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It shows how fasting transforms ordinary hardship into sacred beauty.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"7_Fasting_Intercedes_on_the_Day_of_Judgment\"><\/span>7. Fasting Intercedes on the Day of Judgment<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cFasting and the Qur\u2019an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Resurrection.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Musnad Ahmad)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Fasting will say:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cO Lord, I prevented him from food and desires, so accept my intercession for him.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Imagine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your hunger speaking for you.<\/li>\n<li>Your thirst defending you.<\/li>\n<li>Your \u0631\u0645\u0636\u0627\u0646 days protecting you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is why fasting is spiritually priceless.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"8_A_Special_Gate_in_Jannah_Ar-Rayyan\"><\/span>8. A Special Gate in Jannah: Ar-Rayyan<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cIn Paradise there is a gate called Ar-Rayyan. Those who fast will enter through it, and none besides them will enter.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rayyan comes from the root meaning <strong>quenched thirst<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Meaning:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those who endured thirst for Allah\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Will receive eternal satisfaction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Once they enter, the gate will be closed forever.<\/p>\n<p>This honor is exclusive to fasting people.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"9_Fasting_Forgives_Sins\"><\/span>9. Fasting Forgives Sins<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWhoever fasts Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Conditions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Iman (faith).<\/li>\n<li>Expectation of reward.<\/li>\n<li>Sincerity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Thus fasting is not just worship \u2014 it is spiritual cleansing.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"10_Fasting_Trains_Patience_Sabr\"><\/span>10. Fasting Trains Patience (Sabr)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Fasting teaches three levels of patience:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Patience in obedience<\/strong> \u2013 continuing the fast.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patience from sin<\/strong> \u2013 controlling anger, lies, gossip.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patience in hardship<\/strong> \u2013 hunger, thirst, fatigue.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Allah says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cIndeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Surah Az-Zumar 39:10)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Since fasting builds sabr, it connects to unlimited reward.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"11_Fasting_Makes_You_Feel_the_Pain_of_the_Poor\"><\/span>11. Fasting Makes You Feel the Pain of the Poor<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Hunger softens the heart.<\/p>\n<p>When you fast:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You feel what the poor feel daily.<\/li>\n<li>You appreciate food.<\/li>\n<li>You become more charitable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is why Ramadan is also the month of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Zakah<\/li>\n<li>Sadaqah<\/li>\n<li>Feeding others<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa was described as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cMore generous than the blowing wind in Ramadan.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"12_Fasting_Controls_the_Tongue_and_Character\"><\/span>12. Fasting Controls the Tongue and Character<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Fasting is not just from food.<\/p>\n<p>The Prophet \ufdfa said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>\u201cWhoever does not leave false speech and acting upon it, Allah has no need of him leaving his food and drink.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>(Sahih Bukhari)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>So true fasting includes avoiding:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lying<\/li>\n<li>Backbiting<\/li>\n<li>Abuse<\/li>\n<li>Arguing<\/li>\n<li>Gossip<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It reforms character \u2014 making fasting moral training.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"13_Two_Moments_of_Joy_for_the_Fasting_Person\"><\/span>13.
