The summary/theme of the surah Al-Muzzammil

There is a strong emphasis in the Surah on the importance of prayers and reading the Qur'an. The main theme revolves around the night prayer, tahajjud. The Surah begins by emphasizing the importance of the night prayer and the obligation therein but in the last verse, the obligation is removed, so the prayer becomes voluntary.

Lesson learned from surah Al-Muzzammil

  1. Performing tahajjud is very virtuous, and so is reciting the Qur’ān therein.
  2. One should set aside some time during his/her day in which the attention is on Allāh alone, without any distractions.
  3. If you disbelieve in Allāh, how will you save yourself on the day which will be so horrific it will make children age?
  4. The Qur’ān is a reminder, whosoever wishes, can take benefit from it and reach the Almighty.
  5. Whatever goodness you send forth for yourselves in the way of good deeds, you shall find its reward with Allāh, Who shall give you a much greater reward for it.
  6. Seek the forgiveness of Allāh, for Allāh is the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

 

وَذَرۡنِي وَٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ أُوْلِي ٱلنَّعۡمَةِ وَمَهِّلۡهُمۡ قَلِيلًا
 Transliteration:( Wa zarnee walmukaz zibeena ulin na'mati wa mahhilhum qaleelaa )

11. And leave to Me alone (14) those who belie faith as the lovers of ease (15) and comforts. But let them wait for a little (16).

15.Surely, We have sent to you (18) a Messenger (19), who is a witness (20) against you, as We sent a Messenger towards the Pharaoh (21).

18. When the sky shall be rent asunder, thereby His promise is bound to be fulfilled.

۞إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعۡلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدۡنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَيِ ٱلَّيۡلِ وَنِصۡفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٞ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيۡلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحۡصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيۡكُمۡۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلۡقُرۡءَانِۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرۡضَىٰ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضۡرِبُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَرۡضِ يَبۡتَغُونَ مِن فَضۡلِ ٱللَّهِ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِۖ فَٱقۡرَءُواْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنۡهُۚ وَأَقِيمُواْ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُواْ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقۡرِضُواْ ٱللَّهَ قَرۡضًا حَسَنٗاۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُواْ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنۡ خَيۡرٖ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيۡرٗا وَأَعۡظَمَ أَجۡرٗاۚ وَٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ ٱللَّهَۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٞ رَّحِيمُۢ
 Transliteration:( Inna Rabbaka ya'lamu annaka taqoomu adnaa min sulusa yil laili wa nisfahoo wa sulusahoo wa taaa'ifatum minal lazeena ma'ak; wal laahu yuqaddirul laila wanna haar; 'alima al lan tuhsoohu fataaba 'alaikum faqra'oo maa tayassara minal quraan; 'alima an sa yakoonu minkum mardaa wa aakharoona yadriboona fil ardi yabtaghoona min fadlil laahi wa aakharoona yuqaatiloona fee sabeelil laahi faqra'oo ma tayassara minhu wa aqeemus salaata wa aatuz zakaata wa aqridul laaha qardan hasanaa; wa maa tuqaddimoo li anfusikum min khairin tajidoohu 'indal laahi huwa khayranw wa a'zama ajraa; wastaghfirul laahaa innal laaha ghafoorur raheem. )

20.Verily, your Lord knows that you remain standing in devotion nearly two-thirds of the night, night, and sometimes half of it, and sometimes a third (28) of it, along with a party of your Companions (29) with you.

And Allah measures (30) the night and the day. He knows that you (31) are not able to calculate it. So He has turned to you (mercifully.) Therefore, recite (32) how much is easy out of the Quran. He knows that some of you will fall ill (33), and others will travel in the land seeking the Bounty of Allah, and others will fight (34) in the Path of Allah.

Therefore, recite (35) as much of it as is easy (for you) and keep up Salaah and pay the Zakaah (36) and offer to Allah a good loan (37).

And whatever of good you send beforehand (38) for yourselves, you will find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. Certainly, Allah is Most Forgiving, Ever Merciful (39),
