ToggleRamadan Day 7 – Benefits of Recitation of the Qur’an in Ramadan
As we enter Day 7 of Ramadan, the spiritual atmosphere deepens. The body begins to adapt to fasting, and the heart becomes softer and more receptive to divine guidance. This is the perfect stage in Ramadan to reconnect with the Qur’an, the greatest gift sent by Allah ﷻ to humanity. The relationship between Ramadan and the Qur’an is not ordinary — it is divine, historic, and spiritually transformative.
1️⃣ Qur’an Was Revealed in the Month of Ramadan
The very first and most important reason why Qur’an recitation holds special significance in Ramadan is that the Qur’an itself was revealed in this blessed month.
Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an:
“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:185)
This verse establishes Ramadan as the Month of the Qur’an. It was during this sacred time that the first revelation descended upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the Cave of Hira through Angel Jibreel (AS).
Because of this:
-
Ramadan is not just the month of fasting — it is the month of divine revelation.
-
Reciting Qur’an in this month connects a believer directly to the moment of revelation.
-
Every letter recited revives the spirit of that historic guidance.
This is why the righteous predecessors (Salaf) would dedicate extraordinary time to Qur’an recitation in Ramadan, often completing multiple full recitations (Khatm).
2️⃣ Rewards Are Multiplied in Ramadan
One of the most motivating virtues of Ramadan is the multiplication of rewards.
It is widely mentioned in Islamic teachings that good deeds in Ramadan receive rewards far greater than other months. Scholars explain that voluntary acts receive the reward of obligatory acts, and obligatory acts receive multiplied rewards — often described as up to 70 times or more, by Allah’s mercy.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Whoever draws near to Allah in it with a good deed will be like one who performed an obligatory duty in other months. And whoever performs an obligatory duty in it will be like one who performed seventy obligatory duties in other months.”
(Bayhaqi – Shu’ab al-Iman)
If this multiplication applies to all good deeds, imagine the reward of reciting the Qur’an — Allah’s own words.
Another famous Hadith states:
“Whoever recites a letter from the Book of Allah will receive one good deed, and each good deed is multiplied by ten. I do not say Alif-Lam-Meem is one letter, but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter, and Meem is a letter.”
(Tirmidhi)
Now reflect:
-
One letter = 10 rewards.
-
In Ramadan = multiplied many times more.
-
A single page = thousands of rewards.
-
One full Qur’an recitation = unimaginable reward.
This is why Ramadan is the best time to increase Qur’an recitation more than any other period in the year.
3️⃣ Recite Qur’an With and Without Understanding
Scholars emphasize a balanced approach to Qur’an recitation in Ramadan:
✔️ Recite Even Without Knowing the Meaning
Many Muslims worry that they do not understand Arabic. But reciting the Qur’an — even without understanding — still brings immense reward, blessings, and نور (spiritual light).
Imam Nawawi (RA) explained that:
-
Recitation itself is an act of worship.
-
The tongue engaged in Qur’an is beloved to Allah.
-
The heart gradually softens through recitation.
So one should never abandon tilawah due to language barriers.
✔️ Also Recite With Meaning
Alongside recitation, it is highly recommended to read translation and tafsir.
Why?
-
Understanding brings reflection (Tadabbur).
-
Reflection brings guidance.
-
Guidance brings transformation.
Allah ﷻ says:
“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses.”
(Surah Sad 38:29)
So the ideal Ramadan practice is:
-
At least one complete recitation (Khatm) in Arabic.
-
Alongside reading translation/tafseer daily.
-
Even 5–10 verses with meaning can change the heart.
Thus Ramadan becomes not just recitation — but revelation within the soul.
4️⃣ Qur’an Will Intercede on the Day of Judgment
One of the most powerful virtues of Qur’an recitation is that the Qur’an will become a witness and intercessor for its reciter on the Day of Judgment.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Recite the Qur’an, for it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its companions.”
(Sahih Muslim)
Imagine the scene:
-
On the Day when no one can help another…
-
When people will run even from family…
-
When deeds will be weighed…
The Qur’an will speak on behalf of the believer.
It will say:
“O Allah, he used to recite me — accept my intercession for him.”
Another Hadith mentions Surah Al-Baqarah and Aal-Imran will come like clouds or shade to defend their reciter.
So every verse you recite in Ramadan is not lost — it is stored as a witness in your favor for the Hereafter.
5️⃣ Qur’an Elevates Ranks in Jannah
Recitation is not only a source of forgiveness — it is a means of elevation in Paradise.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise, recite as you used to recite in the world, for your rank will be at the last verse you recite.”
(Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi)
This means:
-
More recitation = higher rank in Jannah.
-
Every memorized or recited verse raises status.
-
Ramadan recitation builds eternal درجات (levels).
6️⃣ Practice of Prophet ﷺ in Ramadan
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would increase Qur’an recitation immensely in Ramadan.
Hadith reports:
-
Angel Jibreel (AS) would meet him every Ramadan.
-
They would review the entire Qur’an together.
-
In his final Ramadan, the Qur’an was reviewed twice.
This Sunnah teaches us:
-
Ramadan = Qur’an revision month.
-
Increase recitation beyond normal routine.
-
Even listening attentively counts as reward.
7️⃣ Spiritual Effects of Qur’an Recitation
Regular recitation in Ramadan produces visible spiritual transformation:
✨ Softens the Heart
Hearts hardened by worldly stress become gentle.
✨ Increases Imaan
Faith strengthens through divine words.
✨ Brings Inner Peace
Allah says:
“Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.” (13:28)
✨ Protects From Sin
A tongue busy with Qur’an avoids idle talk and wrongdoing.
8️⃣ Practical Goals for Day 7 Onward
By Day 7, one should set a structured Qur’an plan:
Easy Ramadan Khatm Plan:
-
1 Juz per day → 1 completion.
-
2 Juz per day → 2 completions.
-
After every Salah → ~4 pages.
-
Taraweeh listening also counts.
Even busy individuals can:
-
Recite after Fajr.
-
Read translation after Asr.
-
Listen before sleep.
Consistency matters more than quantity.
Conclusion
Ramadan and the Qur’an are inseparable. This is the month in which divine guidance first descended — and every Ramadan is an opportunity to reconnect with that revelation.
To summarize the virtues:
-
Qur’an was revealed in Ramadan — giving recitation special significance.
-
Rewards in Ramadan are multiplied many times — even up to seventyfold or more.
-
Recitation without meaning still brings reward — but understanding multiplies impact.
-
The Qur’an will intercede on the Day of Judgment for its reciter.
-
It will elevate ranks in Jannah.
-
It was the central worship of the Prophet ﷺ in Ramadan.
So as we reflect on Day 7 of Ramadan, let us renew our commitment:
