21. The Inauspicious (Maimanah) and the Consequences of Inauspiciousness

This verse contrasts the Maimanah (those on the right) with Mashamah (those on the left), shedding light on the unfortunate fate of those who neglect their duties and the consequences of their actions.

  1. Mashamah (Those on the Left):

    • These are the individuals who will receive their book of deeds in their left hand on the Day of Judgment.
    • They will stand on the left side of the Divine Throne, symbolizing their misfortune and being far from Allah's mercy.
    • These people are considered inauspicious, as they failed to value their lives properly or did not take full benefit from their good deeds.
  2. Inauspiciousness of Infidelity:

    • Infidelity (kufr) is considered the ultimate inauspiciousness, as it leads to separation from Allah's guidance and mercy.
    • In contrast, faith (iman) is a blessing that brings a person closer to Allah and ensures their eternal success.
  3. Inauspicious Deeds:

    • The verse highlights certain deeds that are regarded as inauspicious, affecting a person's spiritual well-being:
      • Going to bed before performing Isha Salah: Neglecting night prayer is considered spiritually harmful.
      • Sleeping at the time of Fajr Salah: Missing the dawn prayer is seen as a sign of negligence.
      • Disobedience to parents: This act is a significant spiritual setback, as honoring one's parents is a key principle in Islam.
      • Sweeping after eating: This action is seen as disrespectful or inauspicious in certain contexts.
      • Burning the outer parts of onions: It is mentioned as an example of actions considered spiritually harmful.
  4. Lessons to be Learned:

    • The verse stresses the importance of maintaining faith and righteousness, and avoiding deeds that are inauspicious.
    • It emphasizes the need to be aware of both the larger actions of faith and the smaller, seemingly insignificant deeds that can either bring blessings or misfortune.
