Transliteration:( Asal laahu any yaj'ala bainakum wa bainal lazeena 'aadaitum minhum mawaddah; wallahu qadeer; wallahu ghafoorur raheem )
“It may be that Allah may bring about friendship [26] between you and those whom you hold to be your enemies among you. But Allah is All-Powerful and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful [27].”
This verse offers hope that those considered enemies of Islam today may later embrace the faith and become allies. It teaches believers to avoid harboring permanent hatred, as hearts are within Allah’s control, and enmity can transform into brotherhood in faith.
Revealed at a time when the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) bore intense feelings against their relatives who remained in disbelief and continued to oppose Islam.
Allah reminds them that He is capable of bringing those same individuals into Islam. This was later witnessed after the Conquest of Makkah, when several former enemies, such as Abu Sufyan, Suhail ibn Amr, and Hakeem ibn Hizam, accepted Islam and contributed positively to the religion.
7. And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is being invited to Islam And Allah guides not the people who are wrongdoers. 8. They intend to put out the Light of Allah with their mouths. But Allah will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it). 9. He it is Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it victorious over all religions even though idolators hate (it).
Allah said,
(And who does more wrong than the one who invents a lie against Allah, while he is being invited to Islam) meaning, none is more unjust than he who lies about Allah and calls upon rivals and associates partners with Him, even while he is being invited to Tawhid and sincerely worshipping Him. This is why Allah said,
(And Allah guides not the people who are wrongdoers.) Allah said,
(They intend to put out the Light of Allah with their mouths.) indicating that the disbelievers will try to contradict the truth with falsehood. Their attempts are similar to one’s attempt to extinguish the sun with his mouth, which is impossible. Likewise is the case of their attempt to extinguish truth. So Allah said,
(But Allah will bring His Light to perfection even though the disbelievers hate (it). He it is Who has sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it victorious over all (other) religions even though the idolators hate (it).) We explained the meanings of similar Ayat before, in the Tafsir of Surah Bara’ah. All praise and thanks are due to Allah.
(60:7) It may well be that Allah will implant love between you and those with whom you have had enmity.[11] Allah is Most Powerful; and Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Compassionate.
11. Although the true believers were following the exhortation to sever their connections with the unbelieving kinsmen patiently, yet Allah knew how hard it was to break off one’s connections with his parents, brothers and sisters and near relations. Therefore, Allah consoled them with the hope that a time would soon come when their same relations would become Muslims and their today’s enmity would again change into love tomorrow. When this thing was said no one could understand how this would happen. But hardly a few weeks had passed after the revelation of these verses when Makkah fell and the people of Quraish began to enter Islam in large numbers, and the Muslims witnessed with their own eyes how the hope they were given materialized.
[1674]- To accomplish this or whatever He should will.
