Transliteration:( Zaalika bi annahum shaaqqul laaha wa Rasoolahoo wa many yushaaaqqil laaha fa innal laaha shadeedul-'iqaab )
“That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah, then surely, Allah is severe in retribution.”
The Banu Nazeer initially entered into a peace treaty with the Holy Prophet ﷺ, agreeing to neutrality. However, they later violated this agreement by allying with the polytheists of Makkah, especially during the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwa-e-Khandaq). They provided support and intelligence to the enemies of Islam, which was a clear act of treason and betrayal.
From this, we learn an essential principle:
Opposing the Prophet ﷺ is equal to opposing Allah Almighty.
This is because the Messenger’s commands are divinely sanctioned, and disobedience to him is regarded as direct disobedience to the Lord of the Worlds.
This verse carries a severe warning and a powerful lesson:
Allah’s punishment is not only certain but also intense for those who oppose Him and His Messenger ﷺ.
Therefore, O Believers!
Stay firm upon the Straight Path (Sirat al-Mustaqeem).
Always honor the pledges made to Allah and His Prophet ﷺ.
Do not fall into the behavior of hypocrites or those who break treaties.
Take a lesson from the downfall of Banu Nazeer — wealth, fortresses, and alliances cannot save anyone from Allah’s wrath if they rebel against His Messenger.
This verse is not only a statement of the cause of divine punishment but also a reminder to remain obedient and loyal to Allah and His Prophet ﷺ.
