Transliteration:( Innamal muu'minoonal lazeena aamanoo billaahi wa Rasoolihee summa lam yartaaboo wa jaahadoo biamwaalihim wa anfusihim fee sabeelil laah; ulaaaika humus saadiqoon )
"The believers are only those who believe [46] in Allah and His Messenger, and then have no doubt [47], and strive with their possessions and their lives in the way of Allah. They are the truthful [48] ones."
The conjunction "and" in this verse signifies that belief in the Holy Prophet ﷺ is equally essential as belief in Allah. Faith is incomplete without both. Therefore, the Holy Prophet ﷺ holds a central and foundational place in Islamic belief, and he cannot be considered equal to other believers. Allah Almighty consistently mentions the Prophet separately from the rest of the believers, as in:
"The Messenger believed in that which was sent down to him from His Lord, and (so did) the believers" (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:285).
This shows that while the Prophet ﷺ is a believer in Allah, he is also the very essence and basis of our belief.
True believers are those who do not entertain any doubts in their faith. Therefore, it is impermissible to say, “If Allah wills, I am a believer.” Faith should be affirmed with absolute conviction, without hesitation or uncertainty.
This verse affirms that those who have complete belief and strive with their wealth and lives for Allah's cause are the truthful ones in their claim of faith. According to this criterion, all the Noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) are truthful believers, as these qualities were fully present in them. Allah Himself has testified to their sincerity and truthfulness.
