📖 Commentary of Verse 6 (Surah Al-Mujadila)

“On that Day, Allah will raise [22] them all together and inform them [23] of what they did. Allah has kept account of it, while they have forgotten [24] it. And Allah is Witness over all things [25].”

✅ [22] Raise them all at one time

Allah will raise all of them together at once and gather them at one place on the Day of Judgment, whether they were righteous or wicked, believers or disbelievers.

✅ [23] Inform them of what they did

From this, two issues emerge:

  1. At the beginning of Qiyamah, both believers and infidels will be gathered together. The separation between the two groups will take place afterward.

  2. The works of special servants are attributed to Allah Almighty, although reminding people about their deeds is the job of the angels. Yet here, Allah says He Himself will inform them, indicating His direct involvement in judgment.

✅ [24] Forgotten in the world

They had forgotten their deeds in the world, but in the Hereafter, every individual will either fully remember what they did, or they will be reminded of it.

✅ [25] Allah is Witness over all things

Since the Ruler Himself (Allah) is a witness to every act, it becomes impossible for any criminal to deny or escape the consequences of their actions.

Please refer to Surah Mujadilah ayat 5 which provides the complete commentary from verse 5 through 7.

(58:6) a chastisement that shall come upon them on the Day when Allah will raise them all to a new life and will inform them of their deeds.[17] Allah has recorded it all while they have forgotten it. Allah is a witness over everything.

Ala-Maududi

(58:6) a chastisement that shall come upon them on the Day when Allah will raise them all to a new life and will inform them of their deeds.[17] Allah has recorded it all while they have forgotten it. Allah is a witness over everything.

17. That is, their having forgotten their own attitude and conduct does not mean that it is dead and forgotten altogether. For them the disobedience of God and resistance to His commands may be an ordinary matter which they may forget easily once they have indulged in it and may not even regard it as anything objectionable, which they should have avoided, yet in the sight of God it is no ordinary matter at all. With Him every misdeed of theirs has been noted down, His register contains a full record of every deed done by a person, when and where it was done, what was his own reaction to it, what were its consequences and how far and in what forms did they appear and spread in the world.

(6) On the Day when Allāh will resurrect them all and inform them of what they did. Allāh had enumerated it, while they forgot it; and Allāh is, over all things, Witness.[1641]
