📖 Commentary of Verse 11 (Surah Al-Muzzammil)

“And leave Me with those who deny the truth, those who live in luxury, and allow them respite for a little while.”

✅ Allah’s (اللَّهُ ) Personal Dealing with the Arrogant Deniers [14]

  • Allah (اللَّهُ ) commands the Prophet ﷺ to leave the deniers to Him — those who reject truth and live in arrogance and luxury.

  • The Prophet ﷺ is told:

    • Do not engage them aggressively,

    • Do not intercede or try to change their fate — Allah (اللَّهُ ) knows best how and when to deal with them.

🌸 This shows the deep concern the Prophet ﷺ had even for his enemies — and how Allah (اللَّهُ ) took full responsibility for their judgment.

✅ Temporary Respite is Not Safety [15]

  • The rich and arrogant disbelievers are given a temporary respite — but this does not mean they are safe.

  • Allah (اللَّهُ ) promises that He will take revenge on behalf of the Prophet ﷺ.

🔥 Historically, it is seen that most opposition to Prophets comes from the wealthy elite, while the poor and humble are usually the first to accept the message.

✅ Patience Until Command for Jihad [16]

  • Until the command for Jihad was revealed, Muslims were instructed to remain patient.

  • Hence, this part of the verse was later abrogated when Muslims were given permission to fight back in defense.

⏳ Alternatively, the verse can also be understood as:
Let them enjoy their worldly life until their death — they will face the truth eventually.

⚠️ But believers must never be given such ease — they should constantly be reminded of the religious commandments and remain obedient to Allah (اللَّهُ ).

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Muzzammil verse 11 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muzzammil ayat 10 which provides the complete commentary from verse 10 through 18.

(73:11) Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie[12] (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while.

Ala-Maududi

(73:11) Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie[12] (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while.

12. These words clearly contain the sense that the people, who were actually denying the Prophet (peace be upon him) in Makkah and were inciting the common people to oppose and resist him by stirring up prejudices and by deceit and fraud, were the well-to-do, prosperous and affluent people, for it was their interests, which were being hit by the reforming message of Islam. The Quran tells us that this was not peculiar only to the Prophet’s case but in every age this very class of the people have been the main obstacle to every movement of reform. For example, see (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 60); (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 66); (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 75); (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 88); (Surah Al-Mominoon, Ayat 33); (Surah Saba, Ayat 34-35); (Surah Az-Zukhruf, Ayat 23).

(11) And leave Me with [the matter of] the deniers, those of ease [in life], and allow them respite a little.
