Transliteration:( Nisfahooo awinqus minhu qaleelaa )
“Half of it, or a little less.”
Allah (اللَّهُ ) gives a flexible command regarding the duration of Qiyam al-Lail:
Spend half the night in worship,
Or a little less,
Or even a little more — as explained in the next verse.
👉 The decision is left to the Prophet ﷺ and the believers — according to their strength and ability.
This verse points to the value of Tahajjud prayer, which should be performed with sincerity and passion.
The number of raka'ats is not fixed — one can choose how much to pray.
✅ Minimum: 2 raka’ats
✅ Recommended: 8 to 12 raka’ats
🔴 It is important to remember:
At the beginning of Islam, Tahajjud was made Wajib (compulsory) for the Prophet ﷺ and some early companions. Later, it became optional but highly recommended (Sunnah Mu’akkadah) for the rest of the Ummah.
