📖 Commentary of Verse 17 (Surah Al-Muzzammil)

“How then, if you disbelieved, will you become pious, on the day which shall make children grey-headed?”

✅ No Escape for Disbelievers on the Day of Judgment [24]

  • If a person chooses disbelief, there will be no escape from Allah's (اللَّهُ ) punishment on ⚖️ the Day of Judgment.

  • This is a direct warning that disbelief will lead to unbearable consequences.

✅ The Day That Turns Children Grey from Fear [25]

  • The severity and terror of that day will be so intense that:

Even if one were a child, the fear would make their hair turn grey.

  • This paints a vivid image of the immense horror of that day, which will shake even the most innocent and fearless.

Ibn-Kathir

(73:17) If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired,[17]

Ala-Maududi

(73:17) If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired,[17]

17. That is, in the first place, you should be afraid that if you do not accept the invitation of the Messenger (peace be upon him) sent by Us, you will have to meet the same evil end in this world, which the Pharaoh has already met in consequence of this very crime. But even if no torment is sent on you in the world, how will you save yourselves from the punishment of the Day of Resurrection.

(17) Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white-haired?[1783]

[1783]- Another meaning is "How can you avoid [punishment]" on such a Day?
