📖 Commentary of Verse 8 (Surah Al-Muzzammil)

“And remember the Name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion.”

✅ Constant Remembrance of Allah (اللَّهُ ) [9]

  • Before reciting the Qur’an, always begin with Bismillah to honor the act of worship.

  • This verse also encourages frequent Dhikr (remembrance) of Allah (اللَّهُ ), such as:

    • Tasbeeh – saying SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)

    • Tahleel – saying La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)

💬 These phrases bring peace to the heart and strengthen faith outside of formal prayer.

✅ Exclusive Devotion to Allah (اللَّهُ ) [10]

  • The believer, especially the Prophet ﷺ, is instructed to focus entirely on Allah (اللَّهُ ), even when involved in daily worldly tasks.

  • This means the heart remains attached to the Creator, even if the hands are busy with responsibilities.

⚖️ However, this verse does not promote cutting off from the world — Islam discourages isolation or abandoning worldly duties.

🌍 The ideal is to live in the world, but keep the heart devoted to Allah (اللَّهُ ) at all times.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Muzzammil verse 8 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muzzammil ayat 1 which provides the complete commentary from verse 1 through 9.

(73:8) So remember the name of your Lord[9] and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion.

Ala-Maududi

(73:8) So remember the name of your Lord[9] and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion.

9. After making mention of the occupation of the daytime, the exhortation to remember the name of your Lord by itself gives the meaning: Never be heedless of the remembrance of your Lord even when you are deeply involved in your worldly occupations, and continue to commemorate His name in one way or another at all times. For explanation, see (Surah Al-Ahzab, ayat 35) note 63.

(8) And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.
