    3. Reducing Measure and Weight – Commentary (Tafseer) of the Verse 83:3

    "But when they give by measure or by weight to others, they reduce it."

    Evil Intentions Turn Good Deeds into Sin

    This verse condemns dishonest traders who cheat others by giving less in weight or measure. A key lesson from this is that intentions matter—even seemingly neutral or good actions can become sinful due to bad intentions.

    • A trader giving full measure today but planning to cheat later is still sinful.
    • A person visiting the mosque with the intention of stealing commits a sin, despite being in a holy place.

    Thus, a good action done with a corrupt motive becomes a sinful deed in the sight of Allah.
