📖 Commentary of Verse 5 (Surah Jinn 72:5)

“And that we thought humans and jinns would never utter [10] a lie against Allah.” (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ Misled by Trusting Polytheists [10]

This means that before accepting faith, these jinns were also polytheists. They used to believe the claims made by disbelieving humans and jinns, thinking they would never lie against Allah ﷻ. This highlights how dangerous blind trust can be, especially when placed in the words of those who have no divine knowledge or guidance.

Ibn-Kathir

Ala-Maududi

(72:5) and that “we had thought that men and jinn would never speak a lie about Allah”,[6]

6. That is, we were misled by those falsehoods because we could never think that the men or the jinn could ever dare forge a lie about Allah, but having heard this Quran we now know that they were, in fact, liars.

(5) And we had thought that mankind and the jinn would never speak about Allāh a lie.
