📖 Commentary of Verse 15 (Surah Al-Jinn)

And as for the deviators, they are the fuel of Hell.

✅ Punishment for the Disbelieving Jinn

  1. This verse clearly confirms that disbelieving jinn (those who deviated from the truth) will be thrown into 🔥 Hell.

Some people might wonder how jinn—who are made from smokeless fire—can be affected by fire. The explanation is simple: Just like humans are made from clay, yet can be harmed by sand, rocks, and other forms of earth, similarly jinn can be burned and punished by Hellfire, even though they are created from fire.

This shows that being made from a substance doesn't make one immune to it.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Jinn verse 15 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Jinn ayat 11 which provides the complete commentary from verse 11 through 17.

(72:15) but those who deviated from the Truth, will be the fuel for Hell.”[14]

Ala-Maududi

(72:15) but those who deviated from the Truth, will be the fuel for Hell.”[14]

14. Here, one may ask: When, according to the Quran, the jinn have been created from the fire, what harm can the fire of Hell do them? The answer is: Even according to the Quran, man has been created out of the earth; why does then man feel hurt when a clod of earth is thrown at him? The truth is that although the whole body of man has been made from the earthly substances, when a living man of flesh and blood is molded from them he becomes an entirely different thing from those substances; then other things made from the same substances become a means of causing harm to him. Likewise, although the jinn have also been created from the fire, when a living and sentient creation has been made from it, the same fire becomes a means of causing harm and hurt for it. For further explanation, see (Surah Ar-Rahman, ayat 15) note 15.

(15) But as for the unjust, they will be, for Hell, firewood.'
