💰 Excessive Love for Wealth

📖 Tafseer (Commentary) of Ayah 89:20

🔹 The Meaning of This Verse

📖 Love for wealth is natural, but excessive attachment is dangerous

  • Islam does not forbid wealth, but it warns against uncontrolled greed.
  • The problem arises when wealth becomes an obsession, leading to negligence of duties toward Allah and society.

🔹 Three Signs of Unhealthy Love for Wealth

🔴 1. Hoarding Wealth Without Spending It Rightfully

  • Wealth is a blessing from Allah but should be used for good causes, such as helping the poor, giving charity (Zakat), and supporting good deeds.
  • Hoarding without spending is a sign of selfishness and lack of gratitude.

🔴 2. Obsession with Earning Wealth

  • Working hard is encouraged, but if someone spends day and night only thinking about gaining more wealth, they risk losing their connection with Allah.

🔴 3. Forgetting the Day of Judgment

  • When money becomes the main priority, people ignore their religious duties and may even earn through unlawful (haram) means.
  • The true test is to balance wealth with faith and righteousness.

🔹 A Healthy Approach to Wealth

Wealth is a Tool, Not a Goal

  • Use wealth responsibly—spend on family, charity, and good causes.

Prioritize Allah Over Wealth

  • Love for Allah and His Prophet ﷺ should be greater than the love for wealth.
  • Unlike wealth, the love of Allah has no limits—the more we increase it, the closer we get to Him.

(89:20) and love the riches, loving them ardently.[14]

14. That is, you have no regard for the permissible or the forbidden, the lawful or the unlawful. You feel no qualms about acquiring wealth in any way or by any means, fair or foul, and your greed is never satisfied however much you may have acquired and amassed.

(20) And you love wealth with immense love.
