📖 Commentary of Verse 27 (Surah Al-Mulk)

"But when they will see it close, the faces [53] of those who disbelieve will be darkened, and it will be said to them, 'This is what you used to call for [54].'"

[53] The Faces of Disbelievers

This verse describes the disbelievers’ reaction when they witness the reality of the Day of Judgment or face their death. Their faces will be darkened or distorted, reflecting the terror, regret, and despair they will experience. The sight of the truth, which they had once denied, will overwhelm them with fear and sorrow. This contrasts with the faces of the believers, who will be cheerful and content, as they face the mercy and rewards of Allah.

[54] The Disbelievers' Demand for Punishment

The disbelievers had once demanded the Day of Judgment and the punishment that the Prophets had warned them about. They mocked the idea and challenged the Prophets’ truthfulness. Now, the reality is before them, and they will face the consequences of their denial. The verse serves as a warning: what was once dismissed or ridiculed will eventually come to pass, and the disbelievers will witness it firsthand, unable to escape it.
