“And one leg will cling to the other leg.”
✅ The Final Moments and the Agonies of Death [29]
This verse describes the intense moment of death when both legs come together, either due to the body being shrouded after death, or as a sign of the overwhelming agony of parting from the world. This stage reflects the final physical condition of the dying person — helpless, motionless, and close to being taken from this world.
✅ Special Mercy for the Righteous
It is also important to note that for some sincere and pious believers, Allah (اللَّهُ ) grants them the blessed vision of the Holy Prophet ﷺ in their last moments. Due to this spiritual gift, the pains of death are either eased or completely removed.
Just as the Egyptian women felt no pain when they cut their hands upon seeing the beautiful face of Hazrat Yusuf (On whom be peace), similarly, the lovers of the Prophet ﷺ feel no worldly pain in the joy of meeting him.
This can be compared to the way anaesthesia is used today — even though an operation is happening, the person feels no pain. Hence, there is no contradiction between the Qur'anic verses that describe the agony of death and the Ahadith that speak of its ease for the beloved ones of Allah.

Some commentators have taken the word saq (leg, shank) in its literal meaning, thereby implying that at death one lean leg will join the other lean leg; some others have taken it metaphorically in the sense of difficulty, vehemence and hardship so as to mean: At that time one affliction will be joined with another affliction, one of being separated from the world and all its enjoyments, and the other of being seized and taken to the Hereafter as a culprit, and this will be experienced by every disbeliever, hypocrite and sinner.
