📖 Commentary of Verse 22 (Surah Al-Mursalat)
"Till an appointed term."
The Creation and Development: This verse refers to the appointed term, which is the period of gestation in the womb. Allah reminds humanity of the time they spent as a drop of semen in their mother's womb, followed by the appointed time of nine months (approximately). This signifies that human life is ordained and controlled by Allah's will, starting from the smallest stage of creation.
Reflection on Divine Power: By reflecting on the creation process, where a simple drop of semen is transformed into a human being over an appointed term, one is reminded of Allah’s power and precision in creation.
Surah Al-Insan (76:2): "We created man from a sperm-drop mixed with blood to test him, and We made him hearing and seeing."
This verse echoes the concept of human creation from an impure drop and highlights the divine wisdom in shaping life.

(77:22) until an appointed time?[12]
12. The words qadar im-malum do not only mean that the term is appointed and fixed but they also contain the sense that it is known to Allah alone. About child, no one knows by any means how many months, days, hours, minutes and seconds it will remain in the mothers womb and what will be its exact and precise time of birth. Allah alone has fixed a specific term for every child and He alone knows it. 2
