Transliteration:( Am yaqooloona nahnu jamee'un muntasir )
"Or do they say, 'We are a united force, surely victorious [60]?"
This verse addresses the disbelievers who believed that their unity would guarantee their victory against the Muslims. It refers to the time when the infidels of Makkah set aside their differences to form a united front with the goal of opposing Islam. Their common objective was to avenge themselves against the Muslims and the Holy Prophet ﷺ.
Alternatively, some scholars mention that Abu Jahl specifically uttered this on the day of the Battle of Badr, as he believed the Makkans had gathered a powerful force to defeat the Muslims.
This statement reveals the arrogance and false sense of superiority held by the disbelievers.
