📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Jāthiyah – Verse 22

"And Allah created the heavens and the earth with truth [44] that everyone may be awarded [45] his earnings, and they shall not be wronged [46]."

✅ [44] Purposeful Creation with Divine Wisdom

The heavens and the earth were created with truth and purpose—not in vain. Even within the heavens and the earth, there are degrees of difference:
The region where the Holy Ka'bah stands is superior to all other land; a land with a mosque is pure, while that with a toilet is impure.
If the very portions of the earth are not equal, then how can believers and disbelievers be treated the same?
Those who equate Prophets with ordinary people should reflect on this distinction.

✅ [45] Creation for Just Recompense

This highlights that the creation of the world was for the sake of Divine justice.
True reward and retribution will occur on the Day of Judgment. Without such a Day, the creation of the world would appear meaningless, as there would be no final accountability.

✅ [46] No One Will Be Wronged

No soul will be wronged—neither will the punishment of wrongdoers be increased unjustly, nor the reward of the obedient be reduced without cause.
However, forgiveness of sinners and rewarding the obedient beyond what they deserve is purely Allah’s mercy.
If someone's deeds are nullified or rejected, it is due to their own actions, not Divine injustice. (May Allah protect us from such loss!)

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Jathiya verse 22 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Jathiya ayat 21 which provides the complete commentary from verse 21 through 23.

(45:22) Allah created the heavens and the earth in Truth[28] that each person may be requited for his deeds. They shall not be wronged.[29]

Ala-Maududi

(45:22) Allah created the heavens and the earth in Truth[28] that each person may be requited for his deeds. They shall not be wronged.[29]

28. That is, Allah has not created the earth and the heavens for mere sport, but it is a wise system with a purpose. In this system it is absolutely unimaginable that the people who may have accomplished good deeds by the right use of the powers and means and resources granted by Allah, and the people who may have spread mischief and wickedness by their wrong use, should end up ultimately in the dust after death, and there should be no life Hereafter in which their good and bad deeds should lead to good or bad results according to justice. If this were so, this universe would be the plaything of a thoughtless being, and not a purposeful system devised by a Wise Being. For further explanation, see, (Surah Al-Anaam, ayat 73); (Surah Younus, Ayat 5-6), (Surah Ibrahim, Ayat 19), (Surah An-Nahl, Ayat 3), (Surah Al-Ankabut, Ayat 44) note 75,76; (Surah Ar-Room, Ayat 8) note 6 – on it.

29. In this context the sentence clearly means: If the good people are not rewarded for their goodness, and the wicked are not punished for their wickedness, and the grievances of the oppressed are not redressed, it would be injustice. There cannot be such an injustice in the kingdom of God. Likewise, there cannot also be the other kind of injustice that a good man be given a lesser reward than what is due to him, or a bad man be given a greater punishment than what he deserves.

(22) And Allāh created the heavens and earth in truth and so that every soul may be recompensed for what it has earned, and they will not be wronged.
