Quran Quote  :

Quran-68:46 Surah Al-qalam English Translation,Transliteration and Tafsir(Tafseer).

Transliteration:( Am tas'aluhum ajran fahum min maghramin musqaloon )

46.And do you ask from them a reward(54), but they are burdened with debt (55).

Surah Al-Qalam Ayat 46 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

54. This tells us that the Noble Prophets do not askk the creation any wages for the propagation of Prophethood. It is Allah Almighty who pays you for it. However, it is incumbent upon the Ommah to thank them. To recite Darood hareef, to love the family members of the Holy prophet, to love the Arabs and to respect the sacred city of Madina. To express appreciation is not paying wages.

Expressing appreciation is a sign of dutifulness.

55. This means the reasons these infidels did not bring faith is not this that they had to spend something for doing this, and they are stingy. rather it is the eternal wretchedness, which deprived them of this favour.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Qalam verse 46 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qalam ayat 42 which provides the complete commentary from verse 42 through 47.

(68:46) Or are you asking them for some compensation so that they feel burdened with debt?[29]

29. The question apparently is being asked of the Prophet (peace be upon him), but its real audience are the people, who were crossing all limits in their opposition to him. They are being asked: Is Our Messenger asking you for a reward which makes you feel so upset. You know that he is absolutely selfless in his invitation and is exerting himself only for your own benefit and well-being. If you do not want to believe in what he says, you may not, but why are you feeling so enraged at his this invitation to you. For further explanation, see (Surah At-Toor, ayat 40) note 31.
