📖 Verse 40 (Surah An-Najm)

"And that his endeavours shall soon be judged [40]."

[196] The Judgment of One’s Endeavours
This verse emphasizes that every individual's endeavours will be scrutinized — whether the deeds were done secretly or for show, and what the intention behind each deed was. The verification of actions is the responsibility of the angels, ensuring that the true reward of each action is determined based on its sincerity and intent. This verse highlights the importance of intention in every action. Some scholars also point out that this judgment applies to everyone, but it may specifically refer to infidels when speaking about the impermissibility of conveying the rewards of good deeds for them.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Tur verse 40 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Tur ayat 33 which provides the complete commentary from verse 33 through 41.

(53:40) and that (the result of) his striving shall soon be seen,[39]

Ala-Maududi

(53:40) and that (the result of) his striving shall soon be seen,[39]

39. That is, in the Hereafter the people’s deeds shall be examined and judged in order to see what provisions they have brought with them. As this sentence occurs immediately after the preceding sentence, it by itself indicates that the preceding sentence relates to the rewards and punishments of the Hereafter, and the view of those who present it as an economic principle relating to this world is not correct. To interpret a verse of the Quran in a way as is irrelevant to the context as well as clashes with the other ordinances of the Quran cannot be right.
