Transliteration:( Wa ja'aloo lillaahi andaadal liyudilloo 'an sabeelih; qul tamatta'oo fa innaa maseerakum ilan Naar )
30. And they have set up rivals for Allah [66] to lead others astray from His path. Say, "Enjoy yourselves for a while, for indeed your end is the Fire."
This verse highlights that shirk (polytheism) stems from associating rivals or equals with Allah.
Even if someone claims to consider a being as Allah's servant, yet attributes to them any divine quality or power, it still constitutes shirk.
Evidence from Qur'an:
"When we made you equal with the Lord of the worlds" (Surah Ash-Shu’ara, 26:98)
The disbelievers will acknowledge their error on the Day of Judgment—they equated their idols with Allah in divine status or attributes.
If someone does not hold a belief of divine power in another being, mere veneration does not count as shirk.
The polytheists believed that their idols had independent authority and control—this is shirk.
In contrast, the Muslim belief is that Prophets and saints are only granted powers by Allah, and their help is sought only through Allah's permission—this is Iman (faith).
Respecting the Ganges as sacred = shirk, because it is not commanded or endorsed by Allah.
Honoring the water of Zamzam = part of faith, because it is a blessed element acknowledged in Islam.
Prostration before an idol = shirk.
Prostrating toward the Ka‘bah = obedience to Allah, and thus a sign of faith.
Key Insight: The intention and belief behind actions define whether something is shirk or faith. Faith is rooted in submitting to Allah’s command, not attributing divinity to anyone.
