Transliteration:( Rabbanagh fir lee wa liwaalidaiya wa lilmu'mineena Yawma yaqoomul hisaab )
41. 'Our Lord, forgive me, my parents [91], and the believers on the Day when the reckoning will occur [92].'
The term ‘parents’ here refers to Hazrat Ibrahim’s real mother and father, not Azar.
His father was Tarrukh and his mother was Mitla bint Namr, both believers.
This dua was made later in his life, after the birth of Hazrat Isma'il and Hazrat Ishaq (عليهما السلام), and is addressed specifically for his believing parents.
Azar, often misunderstood as his father, was actually a distant uncle. Hazrat Ibrahim (عليه السلام) had detested his idolatry even in youth, and Azar died as an unbeliever.
In Qur’anic usage, terms like “Ab” (father) and “Umm” (mother) can refer to extended guardians like uncles or ancestors, but the term “parents” (والدين) here denotes his actual biological parents.
Begin with personal repentance – Hazrat Ibrahim (عليه السلام) starts the dua with seeking forgiveness for himself, which reflects humility and prioritization.
Include one’s parents – Highlighting the importance of filial gratitude and honoring one's parents through supplication.
Pray for all believers – This universal supplication shows the compassion and inclusiveness in the hearts of the Prophets.
Prioritize the Hereafter in prayers – The focus is on forgiveness on the Day of Reckoning, reminding us that the final accountability and eternal reward or punishment should be central in our supplications.

53. Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) included his mushrik father in his prayer because he had made promise that he would pray to his Lord for his forgiveness (Surah Maryam, Ayat 48). But afterwards, when he realized that he should not pray for his forgiveness because he was an enemy of Allah, he absolved himself of that promise. (Surah At-Taubah, Ayat 114).
