Transliteration:( Wa qaaloo aamannaa bihee wa annaa lahumut tanaawushu min makaanin ba'eed )
"And they will say: 'We now believe therein'. But how can they get back to it from such a distant [149] place?"
At the moment of witnessing Divine punishment, the disbelievers will declare their faith. However, this repentance will come too late, as they will be in a place far removed from the world of deeds and actions. Their faith at this stage will not be accepted because the time for sincere belief and righteous deeds has passed.

(34:52) They will then say: “We believe in it”;[73] but whence can they attain it from so far-off a place?[74]
73. “We do believe (now) in it”: “We believe in the message presented by the Messenger in the world.”
74. That is, “They should have believed when they lived in the world; they have come a long way away from it. After having arrived in the next world how can they get a chance to repent and believe?”
[1239]- Literally, "taking of something within easy reach," in other words, "How can they expect to obtain faith at this point?" [1240]- i.e., their former life on earth, wherein they had every opportunity but which is now gone, never to return.
