90. This tells us that other people have come into this world, while the Holy Prophet  ?  has come into this world to warn the people. Thus, we are responsible for ourselves, while Allah Almighty is responsible for the Holy Prophet. An example of this is, going to another country on his own and going to that same country as an ambassador of his country.

In short, all have come into the world. but there is a difference in the nature of their coming. Likewise, there is a great difference in the manner of eating, drinking and sleeping between the Prophets and us.

Every action of the Prophet is an act of worship.

91. This tells us that our beloved Prophet is the Prophet of all the previous Prophets. Therefore, on the night of Meraj all the Prophets performed Salaah behind our holy Prophet ?. Here, restriction of human beings is for the purpose of giving glad tidings and warning, i e glad tidings of Paradise and warning about punishment of Hell.

Both these issues are collectively concerned with man. Although there is punishment of Hell for the jinns, there is no reward of Paradise for them, but for other creations there is neither Paradise nor Hell.

Giving warning is for all creation, while givin glad tidings about Paradise is specifically man. Thus, there is inconsistency between verse and other such verses. It should be remembered that if the Holy Prophet is sufficient for everybody there is no need for any other prophet.

Just Allah Almighty is the Lord of the entire universe, there is no need for another Lord.

92. It they are denying your Prophethood, either because of their ignorance, like the common infidels who are rejectors of the Prophethood  and the universality of Prophethood of the Holy Prophet .

Ibn-Kathir

28. And We have not sent you except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all mankind, and most of men know not. 29. And they say: “When is this promise if you are truthful” 30. Say: “The appointment to you is for a Day, which you cannot put back for an hour nor put forward.”

The Prophet was sent to all of Mankind Allah says to His servant and Messenger Muhammad :

(And We have not sent you except as a giver of glad tidings and a warner to all mankind,) i.e., to all of creation among those who are accountable for their deeds. This is like the Ayah:

(Say: “O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah.”) (7:158)

(Blessed be He Who sent down the Criterion to His servant that he may be a warner to the all creatures.) (25:1)

a giver of glad tidings and a warner means, to bring the glad tidings of Paradise to those who obey you and to warn of the fire of Hell to those who disobey you. This is like the A0ya0t:

(and most of men know not.)

(And most of mankind will not believe even if you desire it eagerly. ) (12:103)

(And if you obey most of those on the earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah’s path) (6:116). Muhammad bin Ka`b said concerning the Ayah:

(And We have not sent you except to all mankind) meaning, to all the people. Qatadah said concerning this Ayah, “Allah, may He be exalted, sent Muhammad to both the Arabs and the non-Arabs, so the most honored of them with Allah is the one who is most obedient to Allah.” In the Two Sahihs it was reported that Jabir, may Allah be pleased with him said, “The Messenger of Allah said:

(I have been given five things which were not given to any of the Prophets before me. I have been aided by fear (the distance of ) a month’s journey. The entire earth has been made a Masjid and a means of purification for me, so that when the time for prayer comes, any man of my Ummah should pray. The spoils of war have been made permissible for me, whereas they were not permitted for any before me. I have been given the power of intercession; and the Prophets before me were sent to their own people, but I have been sent to all of mankind.)” It was also recorded in the Sahih that the Messenger of Allah said:

(I have been sent to the black and the red.) Mujahid said, “This means to the Jinn and to mankind.” Others said that it meant the Arabs and the non-Arabs. Both meanings are correct.

(And they say: “When is this promise if you are truthful”) This is like the Ayah:

(Those who believe not therein seek to hasten it, while those who believe are fearful of it, and know that it is the very truth…) (42:18) Then Allah says:

(Say: “The appointment to you is for a Day, which you cannot for an hour move back nor forward.”) meaning, `you have an appointed time which is fixed and cannot be changed or altered. When it comes, you will not be able to put it back or bring it forward,’ as Allah says:

(Verily, the term of Allah when it comes, cannot be delayed) (71:4).

(And We delay it only for a term (already) fixed. On the Day when it comes, no person shall speak except by His leave. Some among them will be wretched and (others) blessed.) (11:104-105).

(34:28) (O Prophet), We have not sent you forth but as a herald of good news and a warner for all mankind. But most people do not know.[47]

Ala-Maududi

(34:28) (O Prophet), We have not sent you forth but as a herald of good news and a warner for all mankind. But most people do not know.[47]

47. That is, you have not been sent as a Prophet for the people of this city, or this country, or this age alone, but for the people of the entire world and for all times, but your compatriots do not recognize your worth and they do not realize how great a person has been raised among them as a Prophet (peace be upon him) and how uniquely they have been blessed by Allah.

The fact that the Prophet (peace be upon him) has not been appointed a Prophet only for his own country or for his own age but for all mankind till Resurrection, has been stated at several places in the Quran. For instance:

“And this Quran has been revealed to me that I should thereby warn you and all those whom it may reach.” (Surah Al-Anaam, Ayat 19).

“O Prophet, say: O mankind, I am a Messenger to all of you from Allah.” (Surah Al-Aaraf, Ayat 158).

“O Prophet, We have sent you to be a real blessing for all the people of the world.” (Surah Al-Anbiya, Ayat 107).

“Highly blessed is He Who has sent down Al-Furqan to His servant so that he may be a warner to all mankind.” (Surah Al-Furqan, Ayat 1).

The same thing has been stated by the Prophet (peace be upon him) in a number of Ahadith in different ways. For example:

“I have been sent to all mankind, the black as well as the white.” (Musnad Ahmad: Marwiyat Abu Musa Ashari).

“I have been sent to the mankind all together, whereas every Prophet before me was sent only to his own people.” (Musnad Ahmad: Marwiyat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas).

“Before me every Prophet was specifically sent to his own people; but I have been sent for all mankind.” (Bukhari and Muslim: From traditions related by Jabir bin Abdullah).

“My appointment as a Prophet and Resurrection are like this. Saying this the Prophet (peace be upon him) raised his two fingers.” (Bukhari and Muslim). What he meant by this was: “Just as no third finger intervenes between these two fingers, so there is no prophethood between me the and Resurrection. After me there will be Resurrection only, and I shall be the Prophet till Resurrection.”

(28) And We have not sent you except comprehensively[1233] to mankind as a bringer of good tidings and a warner. But most of the people do not know.

[1233]- Literally, "inclusively, without exception."
