Transliteration:( Wa laqadis tuhzi'a bi Rusulim min qablika fa amlaitu lillazeena kafaroo summa akhaztuhum fakaifa kaana 'iqaab )
And surely, the messengers before you were mocked at. Then I gave respite to the disbelievers for a time, then I seized them [90]. Then how was My punishment? (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
This tells us that to adopt a relaxed attitude toward sins is, in itself, a form of severe punishment.
This also includes the situation where people continue to receive many bounties despite their sins — such bounties are, in reality, poison in the form of sweetmeats.
May Allah Almighty protect us from this.
