Transliteration:( Awalam yaraw annaa na'til arda nanqusuhaa min atraafihaa; wallaahu yahkumu laa mu'aqqiba lihukmih; wa Huwa saree'ul hisaab )

41. Do they not see that We are coming, diminishing the earth from its edges [114]? And Allah judges. There is none to reverse [115] His command, and He is swift in reckoning [116]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

(41) Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?[645] And Allāh decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account. (Saheen International Translation)

📖 Commentary of Surah Ar-Ra'd – Verse 41

Do they not see that We are coming, diminishing the earth from its edges [114]? And Allah judges. There is none to reverse [115] His command, and He is swift in reckoning [116]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

✅ [114] Gradual Conquest of Infidel Territories

This refers to how Islamic forces were gradually capturing the lands of disbelievers, leading to the shrinking of their borders and expansion of Muslim rule.
Although Surah Ar-Ra'd is Makki, this verse is Madani, as it speaks about jihad and conquest, which did not occur during the Makkan period.
The verse foretells that all disbelievers’ lands would eventually fall to Islam — and this indeed happened over time.

✅ [115] Irrevocability of Divine Commands

This highlights that Allah’s creational commands (e.g., life, death, victory, defeat) are beyond human control and cannot be reversed.
Once Allah decrees something, none can undo it.

✅ [116] Swift Reckoning on the Day of Judgement

According to Hadith Shareef and Tafseer Jalalain, Allah’s reckoning will be so swift that half a day will suffice for the entire creation’s account.
The remaining part of the Day of Judgement will be spent in:

  • Searching for the Intercessor

  • Praising the Holy Prophet ﷺ,
    As referenced in the verse:
"It is near that your Lord may place you at a station of praise" (S17:V79)

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ar-Ra’d verse 41 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Rad ayat 40 which provides the complete commentary from verse 40 through 41.

(13:41) Do they not see that We are advancing in the land, diminishing it by its borders on all sides?[60] Allah judges, and no one has the power to reverse His judgement. He is swift in reckoning.

Ala-Maududi

(13:41) Do they not see that We are advancing in the land, diminishing it by its borders on all sides?[60] Allah judges, and no one has the power to reverse His judgement. He is swift in reckoning.

60. “We are advancing in the land.” This is a very subtle way of warning the opponents of the truth. The fact that Our message is spreading fast in Arabia. It does, in fact, mean that We Ourselves are advancing very fast in the country against you for We are with those who are carrying Our message. “Diminishing it from its outlying borders.” We are causing the influence of Islam to spread fast in the land and are thus reducing the boundaries of the influence of its opponents. Are not these things the portents of their coming disaster?

(41) Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders?[645] And Allāh decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.

[645]- Referring to the spread of Islām through Allāh's Prophet (ﷺ) and the diminishing of those areas controlled by the polytheists.
