Transliteration:( Wa qad makaral lazeena min qablihim falillaahil makru jamee'aa; ya'lamu maa taksibu kullu nafs; wa sa ya'lamul kuffaaru liman 'uqbad daar )
And those before them had already plotted [117], but all plotting belongs to Allah [118]. He knows what every soul earns. And the disbelievers will soon know to whom belongs the final abode [119]. (Kanzul Imaan Translation)
Just as the people of Aad and Thamood plotted against their prophets to kill them, the Holy Prophet ﷺ is reassured that the opposition and plotting by his own people is not new but similar to past events.
No one can harm or affect anyone without Allah’s will and permission.
This is a source of great comfort for the Prophet ﷺ — he is fully protected by Allah’s decree, and the plots against him will ultimately fail.
The disbelievers will soon realize the truth of who will have the final abode — whether in this world through witnessing Muslim victories, at death, in the grave, or on the Day of Judgment.
The phrase “He knows” signifies that the truth will become clear to them in due course.
For some, this realization will be during their lifetime (especially the infidels of Makkah).
For others, it will be only after death or on the Day of Reckoning.
42. And verily, those before them did devise plots, but all planning is Allah’s. He knows what every person earns, and the disbelievers will know who gets the good end (final destination).
Allah says,
(And verily, those before them did devise plots,) against their Messengers, they wanted to expel them from their land, but Allah devised plots against the disbelievers and gave the good end to those who fear Him. Allah said in other Ayat,
(And (remember) when the disbelievers plotted against you to imprison you, or to kill you, or to get you out; they were plotting and Allah too was plotting; and Allah is the Best of those who plot.) ﴿8:30﴾, and,
(So they plotted a plot, and We planned a plan, while they perceived not. Then see how was the end of their plot! Verily, We destroyed them and their nation, all together.)﴿27:50,51﴾ Allah said next,
(He knows what every person earns,) meaning, He alone knows all secrets and concealed thoughts and will reckon each person according to his work, (
and the Kafir (disbeliever) will know
or the Kuffar (disbelievers) according to another way of reciting,
(who gets the good end.) who will earn the ultimate and final victory, they or the followers of the Messengers. Indeed, the followers of the Messengers will earn the good end in this life and the Hereafter, all thanks and praise is due to Allah.
(13:42) Those who lived before them also devised many a plot,[61] but the master plot rests with Allah. He knows what everyone does. The deniers of the truth will soon come to know whose end is good.
61. That is, these people, who are now devising schemes to defeat the message of the truth, do not take a lesson from the sad end of the people who devised similar schemes before them to suppress the voice of the truth by falsehood, fraud and persecution.
