📖 Commentary of Surah Fussilat – Verse 24

Then, if they endure [61], the Fire is their destination [62]. And if they beg for a favour, none will favour [63] them.

✅ [61] Patience is Now Meaningless

In the world, patience during trials was a means of earning reward and closeness to Allah.
But in Hell, even if the disbelievers remain silent and refrain from complaining aloud, their patience will hold no value.
At that stage, patience and impatience will be equally fruitless, offering no relief from the punishment.

✅ [62] Hell is the Permanent Destination

Whether the disbelievers endure Hell silently or scream in torment, the outcome remains the same:
The Fire will remain their eternal abode.
There is no escape, no lessening of the torment, and no change in their fate.
May Allah protect us all from this final destination.

✅ [63] No Response to Pleas

In the world, Allah called out to them, inviting them to guidance, but they turned away.
Now, in the Hereafter, they will cry out to Allah, begging for mercy, but they will receive no reply.
Their du’as will not be answered, their pleas will be ignored, and they will find no helper or intercessor.

This verse illustrates the complete reversal of mercy for those who rejected the truth:

  • Mercy was offered, but they ignored it.

  • Now they seek mercy, but it will be withheld.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Fussilat verse 24 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Fussilat ayat 19 which provides the complete commentary from verse 19 through 24.

(41:24) In this state, whether they bear with patience (or not), Fire alone shall be their abode. And if they seek to make amends, they will not be allowed to do so.[28]

Ala-Maududi

(41:24) In this state, whether they bear with patience (or not), Fire alone shall be their abode. And if they seek to make amends, they will not be allowed to do so.[28]

28. It can also mean this: If they would want to return to the world, they would not be able to return, and this: If they would want to come out from Hell, they would not be able to come out of it, and this: If they would want to offer an excuse or repentance, it would not be accepted.

(24) So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allāh], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.
