Transliteration:( Nahnu awliyaaa'ukum fil hayaatid dunyaa wa fil Aakhirati wa lakum feehaa maa tashtaheee anfusukum wa lakum feehaa ma tadda'oon )
“We are your friends in the life of this world and in the Hereafter [84]. And for you therein is that which you yourselves desire [85], and you shall get therein that which you may ask for [86].”
The angels speak these comforting words to the believers at the time of death.
They affirm: “We were with you in the world and remain with you now and in the Hereafter.”
According to Tafseer Roohul Mu‘ani and Khazainul Irfaan, this refers to the guardian angels who:
Support believers in the world,
Comfort them during death,
Assist them in the grave, and
Welcome them in the Hereafter.
Allah says in Surah At-Tahrim (66:4): “Then indeed, Allah is his Protector, and Jibreel and the righteous of the believers and the angels after that are [his] assistants.”
This confirms that angelic assistance is real, and likewise, the help of the beloved servants of Allah (like the Prophets and saints) is also true and affirmed.
In Paradise, every noble desire of the believer will be fulfilled.
This refers not to the baser self (nafs)—which will be purified by then—but to the refined soul, whose desires are in harmony with divine pleasure.
Thus, even a believing father will not desire salvation for an unbelieving son, as no evil or inappropriate wishes will exist in Jannah.
The verse distinguishes between:
Desires of the heart, and
Spoken requests.
In both cases, the believers will be granted whatever they wish, whether through inner longing or expressed words.
This emphasizes the complete satisfaction and limitless bounties of Paradise.
In summary, this verse highlights:
The constant companionship of angels for believers,
The purity and perfection of desires in Paradise, and
The uninterrupted fulfillment of all wishes and requests in the eternal realm of reward.
