📖 Commentary of Surah Sad – Verse 11

"This is (a disgraced gathering) from among the allies who shall be made to be routed [18] to the same place."

✅ [18] Part of a Historical Pattern of Opposition

This verse identifies the disbelievers of Makkah as part of a long-standing alliance of opposition—those who had historically opposed previous Prophets. They are not a new force; rather, they are a continuation of an old, defeated group.

Just as earlier nations were routed and disgraced for their rebellion against divine messengers, these enemies too shall meet the same fate. Their combined arrogance and resistance will not save them, and they will ultimately be driven toward the same destruction that befell their predecessors.

This verse serves as both a warning to the disbelievers and a comfort to the Prophet ﷺ, affirming that opposition is a part of the prophetic mission, but the outcome always favors the truth.

The tafsir of Surah Sad verse 11 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Sad ayat 4 which provides the complete commentary from verse 4 through 11.

(38:11) This is only a small army out of the several armies that will suffer defeat here.[12]

Ala-Maududi

(38:11) This is only a small army out of the several armies that will suffer defeat here.[12]

12. “There” implies the city of Makkah. That is, the time is coming when these people shall be humbled and routed in the very place where they are opposing and mocking you. Then, they will be standing, with heads hung down, before the same man whom they despise and refuse to recognize as a Prophet of Allah.

(11) [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers].
