Transliteration:( Jannaati 'adnin mufattahatan lahumul abwaab )
"Paradise of eternal living, the gate thereof is open for them [98]."
This verse refers to the everlasting Paradise promised to the pious, where the gates remain open for them without any hindrance.
The doors of faith and piety are first opened in this world, allowing them to walk the path of righteousness. Then, at the time of death, their souls are welcomed, and in their graves, windows of Paradise are opened, letting in the breeze of Jannah.
On the Day of Judgment, the actual gates of Paradise will be opened before them — already ready for their entry. They will not need to make any effort to open them, as a mark of their honour and divine acceptance.
The tafsir of Surah Sad verse 50 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Sad ayat 49 which provides the complete commentary from verse 49 through 54.
(38:50) This was an admonition. (Now listen:) for the righteous there is indeed an excellent resort: everlasting Gardens whose gates shall remain open to them.[52]
52. The words mufattahat-al-lahum-ul-abwab may have several meanings: (1) They will go about in the Gardens (Paradise) freely without any hesitation. (2) No effort will have to be made to open the gates of Paradise, they will open automatically as soon as they will have the desire to enter them. (3) The angels appointed for keeping Paradise will open the gates for them as soon as they see them. This third meaning has been expressed more clearly at another place in the Quran, thus: When they arrive there, and its gates shall already have been opened, its keepers will say: Peace be upon you, you have fared well, enter here to dwell for ever. (Surah Az-Zumar, Ayat 73).
