Transliteration:( Wantalaqal mala-u minhum anim shoo wasbiroo 'alaaa aalihatikum innna haazaa lashai 'uny yuraad )
"And their (Makkan) chiefs [8] departed saying: 'Go and stick [9] to your gods. Certainly, this is a thing [10] designed'."
After their failed attempt to pressure Abu Talib into restraining the Holy Prophet ﷺ, the leaders of Makkah withdrew in frustration. Their inability to convince either the Prophet ﷺ or his uncle revealed their weakness and internal fear of Islam’s growing influence.
Their statement "stick to your gods" shows that, even though they were unable to counter the Prophet’s arguments, they still clung stubbornly to their idol worship. This reveals an acknowledgment of their defeat—they had no rational basis for their beliefs but insisted on them nonetheless.
Their devotion was not based on truth or evidence, but on tradition and pride, demonstrating how arrogance blinds one from accepting guidance.
The disbelievers claimed that the Prophet’s persistent preaching was part of a grand plan or personal agenda. According to the understanding of Ala Hazrat, this accusation implies that they viewed his tireless dedication as a worldly scheme, as though he stood to gain something for himself.
In reality, the Prophet ﷺ preached out of pure sincerity and divine command, not for material gain. This verse exposes the malicious assumptions of those who could not understand the purity of Prophethood.

(38:6) And the elders among them went forth[6] saying: “Go ahead and be steadfast in adhering to your deities.[7] What is being said is with a design.”[8]
6. The allusion is to the chiefs who got up and left Abu Talib when they had heard what the Prophet (peace be upon him) said.
7. “This thing”: the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) asking them to affirm faith in La-ilaha ill-Allah so as to overpower both Arabia and the adjoining lands.
8. What they meant to say was this: Muhammad has some vested interests. He is extending this invitation to us in order to subjugate us and rule us as his subjects.
