📖 Commentary of Surah Ar-Rum – Verse 16

"And those who disbelieved and belied Our Signs and the meeting of the Hereafter, they shall be brought [28] into the punishment."

✅ [28] Everlasting Punishment for Disbelievers

This verse clearly states the fate of disbelievers—those who denied Allah’s signs and rejected the Hereafter—they will be dragged into the punishment, and that punishment will be eternal.

This warning is specifically for the disbelievers. As for sinful believers, even if they face punishment, it will be temporary and purifying.

A powerful analogy explains this: both coal and impure gold enter the furnace, but the coal remains, while the gold is purified and eventually removed. Likewise, the believer will eventually be saved, but the disbeliever will remain in punishment forever.

This verse reinforces the severity of disbelief and the mercy reserved for those who believe, even if they falter.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ar-Rum verse 16 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Rum ayat 11 which provides the complete commentary from verse 11 through 16.

(30:16) As for those who disbelieved[21] and gave the lie to Our Signs and to the encounter of the Hereafter, they will be arraigned for chastisement.

Ala-Maududi

(30:16) As for those who disbelieved[21] and gave the lie to Our Signs and to the encounter of the Hereafter, they will be arraigned for chastisement.

21. One thing here is noteworthy. Good works have been mentioned as a necessary adjunct of the faith, which will earn one the blissful Garden. But no mention has been made of the evil acts while mentioning the evil end of disbelief. This clearly indicates that disbelief by itself is enough to mar the destiny of a person, whether it is accompanied by the evil act or not.

(16) But as for those who disbelieved and denied Our verses and the meeting of the Hereafter, those will be brought into the punishment [to remain].
