Transliteration:( Wa uzlifatil jannatu lil muttaqeena ghaira ba'eed )
"Paradise shall be brought near to the pious, not far [53] off from them."
On the Day of Judgment, the pious will be standing under the Throne of Allah Almighty, and from there, Paradise will be brought near to them. This implies that Paradise will be made visible and accessible to the righteous, in contrast to the disbelievers who will be distant from it.
The phrase "not far off from them" is a metaphorical expression used to describe the nearness of Paradise to the pious. It's similar to a traveller saying they are approaching a destination, like Lahore, even if it may still be some distance away. This expression conveys the idea that the pious will be so close to Paradise that it will seem almost within reach.
Another interpretation suggests that some of the pious may enter Paradise without any accountability, as they are so close to it in status and favor with Allah.
The Sufi sages further explain that Paradise is so close to the pious believer that, even in this world, as soon as they die, they enter Paradise. However, the first interpretation, where Paradise is made close to the pious on the Day of Judgment, is of greater weight.
Ultimately, only Allah and His Messenger (PBUH) know best about the exact nature of this nearness and the reward for the pious.
The tafsir of Surah Qaf verse 31 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Qaf ayat 30 which provides the complete commentary from verse 30 through 35.
(50:31) And when Paradise shall be brought close to the God-fearing, and will no longer be far away,[39]
39. That is, as soon as the judgment will be passed about a person from the court of Allah that he is righteous and worthy of Paradise, he will immediately find Paradise in front of him. He will not have to travel a distance on foot or by a conveyance to reach to it. There will be no interval between the pronouncement of the judgment and his entry into the Paradise. From this it can be judged how different the concept of space and time is between this world and the Hereafter. The concept of space and time that we are familiar in this world will become meaningless there.
