53. Reason for its Revelation:

This verse was revealed regarding Uqbah bin Hail who at first had recited the Kalima and accepted Islam then became an apostate by listening to Ubay bin Khalf. The Holy Prophet atrophied about his death, according to which he was killed in the Battle of Badr. Ubay bin Khalaf was his friend about whose friendship Uqbah would be ashamed on the Day of Judgement.

Although the purpose of revelation of this verse is specific its injunction is general.
