Transliteration:( Wa qawma Noohin lammaa kazzabur Rusula aghraqnaahum wa ja'alnaahum linnaasi Aayatanw wa a'tadnaa lizzaalimeena 'azaaban aleemaa )
"And as for the people of Nuh, when they denied the messengers [68], We drowned them and made them a sign for the people [69]. And We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers [70]."
Though the people of Nuh (Noah) denied only him directly, Allah refers to it as a denial of “messengers”—because rejecting one is like rejecting all, as their message is one and the same: Tawheed (Oneness of Allah).
Due to their disbelief, they were drowned by Allah, and their destruction was made a lasting sign—a historical warning for all future nations about the consequences of rejecting divine guidance.
This verse concludes with a universal warning: Allah has prepared a painful punishment for all wrongdoers, not just those of the past. His justice continues, and the fate of Nuh’s people remains a lesson for all.
The tafsir of Surah Furqan verse 37 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Furqan ayat 35 which provides the complete commentary from verse 35 through 40.
(25:37) (The same happened with) the people of Noah: when they gave the lie to the Messengers[50] We drowned them and made of them a Sign of warning for all mankind. We have kept ready a painful chastisement for the wrong-doers[51].
50. They did not charge only Prophet Noah (peace be upon him) with imposture because he was a man, but, in fact, charged all the Prophets with imposture because they were all human beings.
51. That is, a painful chastisement in the Hereafter.
[1024]- Their denial of Noah was as if they had denied all those who brought the same message from AllΔh.
