Transliteration:( Innamaa tunziru manit taba 'az-Zikra wa khashiyar Rahmaana bilghaib, fabashshirhu bimaghfiratinw-wa ajrin kareem )
"You warn only him who follows a reminder [10] and fears [11] the Most Affectionate without seeing. So give him the good news of forgiveness [12] and a respectable reward."
This refers to those who pay attention to reminders—they reflect on the verses of the Qur’an and the sermons of the Prophet ﷺ with serious thought and focus. Before acting upon deeds, a person first ponders over the truth, recognizes the Prophet ﷺ and his message, and then commits to faith and righteous actions.
Thus, the Prophet’s warning comes before righteous deeds, guiding people toward belief. There's no contradiction here—it simply reflects the natural order of guidance, starting with realization, followed by faith, and then action.
This means fearing Allah even without having seen Him, or fearing Him in private when no one else is watching. Despite Allah being the Most Affectionate, His wrath is severe for those who reject or disobey.
This subtle use of the name “Most Affectionate” reminds us that even Allah’s mercy carries power, and fear of His punishment is part of true faith. As noted in Tafseer Roohul Ma'ani, such fear is essential in keeping believers on the right path.
Here, the “respectable reward” includes both worldly blessings and the eternal bounties of Paradise. This verse shows that fear of Allah, paired with love and obedience through the Prophet ﷺ, leads to divine forgiveness and eternal success.
May Allah grant us this honour.
