📖 Commentary of Surah Yaseen – Verse 17

"And on us is not but a clear deliverance [24] of a message."

✅ [24] Duty Bound to Convey the Truth

Here, the Messengers clarified that their sole responsibility was to clearly deliver the message—not to compel belief. Their claim was not based on empty words, but supported by miracles and evident proofs, validating their truth.

They also made it clear: if the people chose disbelief, then the consequences would fall upon them alone. The role of the Messengers was simply to warn and convey without false appearances or pretension.

This also teaches that the disciples of Prophet Isa (peace be upon him), who were sincere and genuine, did not use any deceptive methods. From this, we understand that the blessed Ahl-e-Bayt (household of the Prophet ﷺ)—being even more exalted—are far beyond any kind of pretense or show.

Ala-Maududi

(36:17) and our duty is no more than to clearly convey the Message.”[13]

13. That is, our duty is only to convey to you the message that Allah has entrusted us with. Then it is for you to accept it or reject it. We have not been made responsible to make you accept it forcibly, And if you do not accept it, we shall not be seized in consequence of your disbelief, You will yourselves be answerable for your crimes.

(17) And we are not responsible except for clear notification."
