    قَالُواْ يَٰوَيۡلَنَا مَنۢ بَعَثَنَا مِن مَّرۡقَدِنَاۜۗ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ وَصَدَقَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلُونَ

    Transliteration:( Qaaloo yaa wailanaa mam ba'asanaa mim marqadinaa; haaza maa wa'adar Rahmanu wa sadaqal mursaloon )

    52.They will say: "Ah! Woe[80] to us. who has awakened us from our slumber [81]? This is what the Most Affectionate had promised (82) and the Messengers spoke the truth,(83). (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    (52) They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth." (Saheen International Translation)

    📖 Commentary of Surah Ya-Sin – Verse 52

    "They will say: 'Ah! Woe [80] to us. Who has awakened us from our slumber [81]? This is what the Most Affectionate had promised [82] and the Messengers spoke the truth [83].'"

    ✅ [80] Expression of Regret and Fear

    When the disbelievers are resurrected from their graves, they will cry out in shock and despair, saying “Ah! Woe to us”—a phrase expressing deep regret, fear, and helplessness upon facing the reality they used to deny.

    ✅ [81] The Sleep of the Grave

    They will ask in bewilderment: “Who has awakened us from our slumber?” referring to the state of barzakh (life in the grave), which to them felt like a deep sleep. The sudden resurrection will feel like an abrupt awakening, leaving them stunned.

    ✅ [82] Fulfillment of Divine Promise

    They will then realise: “This is what the Most Affectionate had promised”—acknowledging that this Day of Resurrection was indeed foretold by Allah (the Most Merciful) in His Scriptures.

    ✅ [83] Truthfulness of the Messengers

    In the end, they will admit: “And the Messengers spoke the truth.” This is a confession that all the prophets’ warnings about resurrection and accountability were absolutely true, though now it will be too late for repentance.

    (36:52) (nervously) exclaiming. “Alas for us! Who roused us out of our sleeping-place?”[48] “This is what the Merciful One had promised, and what (His) Messengers had said was true.”[49]

    (36:52) (nervously) exclaiming. “Alas for us! Who roused us out of our sleeping-place?”[48] “This is what the Merciful One had promised, and what (His) Messengers had said was true.”[49]

    48. That is, at that time they will not realize that they had been dead and had been raised back to life after a long period, but they will be thinking that they had fallen asleep, and had been woken up suddenly by some terrible catastrophe, and were running away from it. For further details, see Surahs (Surah TaHa, Ayat 103); (Surah Al-Hajj, Ayat 1-2).

    49. Here, it is not clear as to who will give this answer. It may be that they themselves would realize after some time to their horror that it was the same thing of which the Messengers of God used to inform them and they used to belie them. It may also be that the believers will remove their misunderstanding and tell them that it was not waking up from sleep but the second life after death. And it may also be that they will understand this from the general conditions prevailing on the Day of Resurrection and the angels might tell them this.

    (52) They will say, "O woe to us! Who has raised us up from our sleeping place?" [The reply will be], "This is what the Most Merciful had promised, and the messengers told the truth."
