"Surely, the worst of animals in the sight of Allah are those who are deaf and dumb, who have no sense [46]."
This verse was revealed regarding Bani Abduddaar bin Qusai, who arrogantly said they were deaf and blind to the message of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. Such rejection reduced them—despite being human—to a level worse than animals, because they refused to benefit from divine guidance.
As an example, Prophet Nuh (AS) was told to save animals in his ark, but not the disbelievers—showing that those who reject prophets are even less worthy than beasts.
This also teaches that any ear, eye, tongue, or intellect that does not engage with the spiritual light of Prophethood ﷺ is essentially mute, blind, and senseless. Most of this tribe perished at Uhud, except two—Mus'ab bin Umair and Suwayt bin Harmalah (RA)—who accepted Islam and were honored.

(8:22) Indeed the worst kind of all beasts in the sight of Allah are the people that are deaf and dumb,[17] and do not understand.
17. These are the ones who neither hear nor speak the truth. So far as truth is concerned, their ears are deaf and their mouths dumb.
