📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anfal – Verse 37

"Thus will Allah separate the impure from the pure [76]. And He will pile the impure upon each other, and piling them together, He will cast them into Hell [77]. It is they who are the losers."

✅ [76] The Divine Separation Between Truth and Falsehood

This verse signifies that Allah distinguishes between belief and disbelief, truth and falsehood. The success of Muslims lies in this divine sifting, where the pure-hearted believers are separated from the impure disbelievers. This ensures the clear identity of Islam and its followers.

✅ [77] Unity in Falsehood, But Defeat is Inevitable

The disbelievers—whether Christians, Jews, or polytheists—often unite in opposing Islam. But falsehood, no matter how united, remains filth, while faith is purity. Infidelity is darkness, Islam is light. Eventually, Allah will heap the rejectors together and cast them into Hell, making them the ultimate losers, despite their temporary alliances.

Ala-Maududi

(8:37) so that Allah may separate the bad from the good, and join together all those who are bad into a pile one upon another, and cast them into Hell. They, it is they who are the losers.[30]

30. What can be more calamitous than a person’s discovery at the end of the road that all the time, energy, ability and the very quintessence of his life which he has devoted has driven him straight to his utter ruin; that his investments far from yielding any interest or dividend will require from him the payment of a grievous penalty instead.

(37) [It is] so that Allāh may distinguish the wicked from the good and place the wicked some of them upon others and heap them all together and put them into Hell. It is those who are the losers.
