📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anfal – Verse 71

"And if they intend to betray you [159], then they have already betrayed Allah before. So He has given you power over them [160]. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise."

✅ 159 Unreliable Pledges from Those Who Betrayed Allah

This verse refers to prisoners of war who may accept Islam outwardly, yet later revert to disbelief. It reminds the Prophet ﷺ not to be disheartened, for such individuals had already betrayed Allah—referring to their broken covenant made in the realm of souls before entering this world.

The message is clear: those who are unfaithful to Allah, the most sacred of covenants, cannot be trusted in worldly pledges either. Their betrayal should come as no surprise, as they are spiritually inconsistent by nature.

✅ 160 Assurance of Continued Divine Support

Just as Allah granted the Muslims victory at Badr, allowing them to defeat, capture, and subdue many of the enemy, He promises the same in the future. If such individuals turn against Islam again, Allah has the power to bring them under Muslim control once more. His knowledge encompasses their intentions, and His wisdom ensures just outcomes.
