📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Anfal – Verse 54

"The manner of the people of Pharaoh and those before them [126] was that they had falsified the signs of their Lord. Then We destroyed them for their sins [127]. And We drowned the people of Pharaoh, and they were all unjust."

✅ 126 Historical Lessons from Destroyed Nations

Nations before Pharaoh—like the ‘Ād and Thamūd—were blessed with immense bounties from Allah Almighty. Yet, due to their ingratitude and rebellion, they were completely destroyed. This verse highlights the importance of studying the past, especially the stories of disobedient nations, as a way to learn from their downfall. Likewise, reading the biographies of saints encourages hearts to draw closer to Allah, which is why both types of narratives are included in the Holy Qur’an.

✅ 127 Collective Guilt and Universal Punishment

Though Pharaoh’s people varied in their degree of cruelty, the punishment encompassed all, including those who were less severe in wrongdoing. This teaches that when injustice becomes widespread, Divine punishment may fall upon an entire group, regardless of individual variance. All of them were unjust, and thus all were drowned.
