📖 Commentary of Surah Al-Ankabut – Verse 27

"And We bestowed upon him Ishaq [61] and Ya'qub, and We made prophethood and the Book [62] a part of his descendants. And We gave him his reward in this world [63]. Indeed, in the Hereafter, he is among the righteous [64]."

✅ [61] Special Mention of Ishaq and Ya’qub

Though Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) had multiple sons—including Isma'il, Madyan, and Madain—the special mention of Ishaq and Ya’qub here is due to their miraculous births in his old age and the prominent prophetic lineage that continued through them. Ishaq (peace be upon him) was born from Bibi Sarah, and from him came Ya’qub (peace be upon him), establishing the line of Bani Isra’il.

✅ [62] Prophethood Reserved in His Lineage

This verse confirms that prophethood and revelation were preserved within the descendants of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). It was a divine favour that only his progeny—from Ishaq and Isma’il (peace be upon them)—would carry this responsibility.

Hence, any claim to prophethood outside this lineage, such as the false claim of Mirza Qadyani, stands invalid. Allah chose the descendants of Ibrahim with honour and purity, continuing up to the Final Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who is from the line of Isma’il.

✅ [63] Worldly Rewards for Ibrahim

Allah not only rewarded Ibrahim (peace be upon him) with righteous children and prophethood, but also with global reverence. His name is remembered with honour in all three major Abrahamic religions. His legacy is embedded in the rituals of Hajj, and his mention in Salawat alongside the Prophet ﷺ is a unique honour among the prophets.

The blessing of progeny, the preservation of his teachings, and the universal love for him reflect this great reward.

✅ [64] Eternal Success in the Hereafter

Beyond worldly honour, Ibrahim (peace be upon him) holds a lofty rank in the Hereafter. He is among the righteous and resolute Prophets, whose faith, struggle, and devotion remain unmatched.

His life story is a model of trust, sacrifice, and divine nearness, ensuring his exalted status in both worlds.

Ibn-Kathir

The tafsir of Surah Ankabut verse 27 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Ankabut ayat 26 which provides the complete commentary from verse 26 through 27.

(29:27) and We bestowed upon him (offspring like) Isaac and Jacob,[47] and bestowed prophethood and the Book[48] on his descendants and granted him his reward in this world; he will certainly be among the righteous[49] in the Hereafter.

Ala-Maududi

(29:27) and We bestowed upon him (offspring like) Isaac and Jacob,[47] and bestowed prophethood and the Book[48] on his descendants and granted him his reward in this world; he will certainly be among the righteous[49] in the Hereafter.

47. The Prophet Isaac (peace be upon him) was his son and the Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) was the grandson. The other sons of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) have not been mentioned here, because from his Midianite descendants only the Prophet Shuaib (peace be upon him) was appointed a Prophet, and no Prophet was born among his Ishmaelite descendants for 2500 years or so till our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Contrary to this, the descendants of the Prophet Isaac (peace be upon him) continued to be blessed with the prophethood and the Book till the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him).

48. This covers all the Prophets who were raised from all the branches of the Prophet Abraham’s (peace be upon him) progeny.

49. What is meant to be said is this: The rulers and the learned men and the priests of Babylon who tried to defeat the mission of the Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) and the polytheistic people who had followed their wicked chiefs blindly, have since been blotted out and no trace of them is to be found anywhere in the world, but the person whom they had wanted to annihilate by burning in the fire only because he had proclaimed the word of Allah, and who eventually had to leave his country empty handed, was so blessed by Allah that his name has been well known in the world since the past 4,000 years and will remain so till the Last Day. All the Muslims and the Christians and the Jews unanimously recognize that friend of the Lord of the worlds as their spiritual leader. Whatever guidance mankind has received during the past 40 centuries has been received through this one man and his righteous descendants. The unique reward that he will get in the Hereafter is assured, but the place of honor that he has gained even in this world has not been gained so far by any of those who have exerted themselves in pursuit of the worldly benefits and advantages.

(27) And We gave to him Isaac and Jacob and placed in his descendants prophethood and scripture. And We gave him his reward in this world, and indeed, he is in the Hereafter among the righteous.
