    📖 Commentary of Surah Al-‘Ankabut – Verse 62

    "Allah extends provision for whom He wills of His servants and restricts it for whom He wills [150]. Indeed, Allah is Knowing of everything [151]." (Kanzul Imaan Translation)

    ✅ [150] Divine Control Over Sustenance

    This verse highlights Allah’s absolute authority over wealth and poverty. He may enrich whomever He wills and withhold provision from whomever He wills. This applies both collectively—some people are made wealthy, others poor—and individually, where a single person may experience both wealth and poverty at different times.

    According to the blessed Sufis, this control is not arbitrary but purposeful. Allah makes His friends experience poverty, only to shower them with His special mercy and attention. Conversely, He grants the disbelievers wealth, which becomes a source of divine wrath, not blessing.

    Thus, material wealth is not a sign of divine favor, and poverty is not a sign of rejection. Rather, each condition has its own wisdom and spiritual consequences.

    ✅ [151] Allah’s Perfect Knowledge and Justice

    Allah is fully aware of who is deserving of wealth and who is better off without it. His choices are not to be questioned, as His knowledge encompasses all circumstances and inner realities.

    This verse reminds us not to use worldly success as a measure of divine love. Many noble Companions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ lived in poverty, yet were beloved to Allah. In contrast, Abu Jahl and others were rich, but were among the cursed.

    In essence, wealth and poverty are tests, not proofs of divine acceptance or rejection.
