Transliteration:( Wa lammaaa an jaaa'at Rusulunaa Lootan seee'a bihim wa daaqa bihim zar'anw wa qaaloo laa takhaf wa laa tahzan innaa munajjooka wa ahlaka illam ra ataka kaanat minal ghaabireen )

33. And when our angels came to Lut (79) their coming became unpleasant to him and on account of them his heart was stratitened(80), but they said, fear (81) not and nor grieve, undoubtedly, we shall deliver you and your family (82) but your wife, she is among those who remain behind (83) .

Surah Al-Ankabut Ayat 33 Tafsir (Commentry)

  • Tafseer-e-Naeemi (Ahmad Yaar Khan)
  • Ibn Kathir
  • Ala-Madudi

79. They reached there the form of In handsome boys so that the culprits could be caught in the act of crime

80. Not because of the arrival of the guests. But because of considering the wickedness of his people of how he would be protecting his guests. This tells us that the protection and respect of the guests is the responsibility of the host.

From this we leam that sometimes a Prophet does not recognize an angel However, when this angel comes with a revelation, it is imperative for the Prophet to recognize him Otherwise revelation will not remain binding and categorical.

81. This means do not be afraid of the people, do not be saddened over us because we are not human beings, but we are angels.

82. To provide salvation is the work of Allah Almighty, yet the angels had said that we will provide salvation.

83. His wife will remain behind in that place and will be destroyed by infidels and die of infidelity.

From, this emerges a few issues:

1. Allah Almighty has given knowledge of the unseen to the angels. They know when, where and in what manner a person would experience death.

2. An infidel does not derive blessings from the company of the Prophets, it is thus useless for an infidel woman to be the wife of a Prophet.

3. Any person who has a love for another person, will be with that person. The wife of Hazrat Lut (On whom be peace) loved the infidels, she was thus destroyed with them.

The tafsir of Surah Ankabut verse 33 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Ankabut ayat 31 which provides the complete commentary from verse 31 through 35.

(29:33) When Our emissaries came to Lot he was distressed and embarrassed on their account. They said: “Do not fear nor be distressed.[58] We shall save you and all your household except your wife who is among those that will stay behind.

58. That is, “As for us, you should neither fear that they will in any way he able to harm us, nor be anxious about how you will protect us from them.” This was the time when the angels revealed their identity to the Prophet Lot (peace be upon him), and said that they were not men but angels, who had been sent to bring the scourge on his people. According to the elucidation in Surah Hud, when the people were rushing into Lot’s (peace be upon him) house and he felt that he could in no way save his guests from them, he cried out: “I wish I had the power to set you right, or I could find some strong support for refuge,” (Surah Hud, Ayat 80). At this time the angels said: “O Lot, we are messengers sent by your Lord; they will not be able to harm you at all,” (Surah Hud, Ayat 81).
