Transliteration:( Tad'oonanee li-akfura billaahi wa ushrika bihee maa laisa lee bihee 'ilmunw wa ana ad'ookum ilal'Azeezil Ghaffaar )
"You call me that I should disbelieve in Allah and associate with Him that which I have no knowledge of [113], while I invite [114] you towards the Honourable, the Great Forgiver."
Here, the believer is highlighting the absurdity of the invitation he is receiving: to disbelieve in Allah and associate others with Him without any knowledge or proof. This points to a critical truth — that polytheism (shirk) is not based on revelation or authentic knowledge; rather, it is rooted in assumptions, traditions, and false beliefs. He is making it clear that there is no justification to worship any partner with Allah, since no divine evidence exists to support such acts.
The believer, in contrast, is inviting them towards Allah, Who is ‘Al-‘Azeez’ (The Honourable) and ‘Al-Ghaffar’ (The Great Forgiver). These two attributes reflect both Allah’s Majesty and His Mercy. He is powerful enough to punish, yet merciful enough to forgive even the gravest sins—if people turn to Him in repentance.
By calling towards Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him), the believer is in fact calling towards the true worship of Allah, which emphasizes the point that obeying the Prophet is equal to obeying Allah. Rejecting the Prophet, therefore, is not just a personal rejection—it is a rebellion against the very Lord of Mercy and Honour.
The tafsir of Surah Muminun verse 42 by Ibn Kathir is unavailable here.
Please refer to Surah Muminun ayat 41 which provides the complete commentary from verse 41 through 46.
(40:42) you call me to deny Allah and to associate with Him as His partners those regarding whom I have no knowledge (that they are Allah’s partners in His Divinity),[57] whereas I call you to the Most Mighty, the Most Forgiving?
57. That is, about whom I have no scientific proof that they are God’s associates. Why should I then accept such a stupendous thing blindly that they also have a share in Godhead and that I have to serve them along with Allah?
